This morning in our meditation, I started by asking how you were doing.

It’s been a lot the past couple of weeks. I know I have experienced many moments of disbelief, stress and even feelings of being scared. The world seems to be moving really, really fast with big issues at hand. And so I asked, how are you doing? Have you asked yourself the same question lately?

In meditation, the word equanimity is used quite a bit. Equanimity means allowing everything to be just as it is. Thoughts may come, feelings may rise, and sounds may distract, but instead of reacting or getting caught up in them, we simply notice without clinging to them or pushing them away.

For example…Imagine sitting by a peaceful lake. The water is calm, reflecting the sky. Then, a breeze ripples the surface, or a leaf falls in, creating gentle waves. But after a moment, the lake returns to stillness. This is equanimity - the ability to stay balanced and at ease, no matter what thoughts, emotions, or experiences come and go.

In daily life, practicing equanimity allows you to respond calmly rather than react out of habit. It helps you meet life's ups and downs steadily, like the lake that knows how to return to stillness.

The other thing that I believe is something we should know is that equanimity isn’t something we either have or don’t have; it's a skill we strengthen with practice. So, this morning, that is what we did.

I hope you find time today to take a pause, ground yourself and practice equanimity to further deepen this important skill.
