How did you sleep during the winter storm that swept through last night? Are you "digging" out this morning? Are you ready for spring? Lol. For those of you who joined our meditation this morning, you may have noticed my little nod to spring. ;)

Today in our meditation, we worked with sound. I shared how I live with tinnitus, which means every moment is filled with sound. It can be distracting if I let it, but I have found a way to live with the constant "noise." You can read more about that here.

But the reality is that we all live with distracting sounds. And especially when we are meditating, disruptive sounds can be frustrating.

In our practice, we used sound and breath as part of our meditation, slowly building a new relationship with sound—or noise, depending on how you see it. You see, it’s not the sound itself that creates disturbance—it’s our relationship with it. It’s our willingness to label a sound as pleasant or unpleasant, welcoming or disruptive.

You may want to try this: open your door and listen outside. Do you hear the sound of freshly fallen snow? The slow steady rumble of a distant snowplow? A neighbour clearing their car? How do you label these sounds—pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral?

Let me know in the comments below what sounds you find pleasant, unpleasant or neutral while meditating.

Have a wonderful day!
