This week we heard of a lost puppy in our area. Her name is “Nonsense” and she is about the same age as my puppy.
We live quite rural and in all respects the community is small, but I’ve been watching the community rally. People driving slowly down back roads. Shared sightings through text strings, people walking their own trails and fields. A whole neighbourhood quietly looking for this young hound. Hounds are hard to find. And I wonder if “Nonsense” knows she is being looked for?
I’ve been thinking about that feeling. The one she may be carrying. A low-level hum that something is wrong, combined with the instinct to move, to search, to sniff out familiar ground.
Because I think many of us know that feeling as well. Maybe not being physically lost… but perhaps stretches of time when we can’t quite find ourselves. When the familiar markers have disappeared. When we’re moving but not sure toward what.
This meditation sits with this idea. It asks what happens when we stop running in circles and let ourselves be still — even briefly — in the middle of not knowing.
Maybe… stillness is the way to be found.
