Rooted and Awake

A Mindfulness Meditation on Posture, Breath, and Presence

This week, I’m taking some time off, stepping away from the computer and spending more time outside. So today’s meditation will reflect that same spirit: simple, grounded, and back to basics.

Just clear, gentle instructions for a steady, supportive practice.

Let’s take a moment to land…

You’re invited to sit in a way that supports both ease and alertness…whatever that means for you today.

Here are a few options:

If you're sitting on a chair, plant your feet flat on the floor and let your hands rest on your lap or thighs. Sit tall, high on your sitting bones and allow your rib cage to feel at ease. Let your feet feel the support beneath you.

If you're sitting on a cushion on the floor, try crossing your legs and raising your hips slightly above your knees with a folded blanket, a cushion or a yoga block. Let your spine gently lengthen and relax your shoulders.

If sitting is uncomfortable today, you can also lie down on your back with a cushion under your knees for support. Just try to stay awake and gently present.

Whatever position you choose, let your spine be upright but not stiff. Think of the spine being balanced, like a tree rooted in the earth.
Let your shoulders soften, your jaw relax, and your hands rest easily.

There is no perfect way to sit; what matters most is that you feel stable and supported.

Now, allow your eyes to close or soften your gaze.

Notice the body just as it is…
