It’s a beautiful, moody morning at the farm today. The wind is blowing, and the chimes are enthusiastically chiming. As I sat on my porch earlier, sipping my tea, I watched the little birds bully the big birds. And our robin family is feeding their nest of newborns. There is a promise of rain on the horizon to satisfy the thirst of the land after a week of heat. It feels wild and free and alive!
This week, I shared a story about the feeling of freedom I experienced while riding bikes with my best friend. It brought me right back to being young, when a bike wasn’t just a way to get around, but a vehicle of independence, adventure, and possibility. As we rode, I could feel my body begin to soften. Maybe it was the movement, maybe the companionship, or it could have been the wind on my face and the sun on my back…most likely all of the above.
What it did do was remind me of the simple joy of doing something fun and how that feels like freedom. It also reminded me that freedom doesn’t always come from big changes or dramatic shifts. Sometimes it lives in movement. Sometimes in stillness. Sometimes just noticing what we’re carrying—and choosing to let it go.
In today’s meditation, we’ll explore what freedom feels like in the body, the breath, and the mind.
Let’s begin…
